In September 2007, Rara was declared a Ramsar wetland site due its the plants and animals inhabiting this park. And many different types of wildlife species and plants are found. This too makes a very special attraction for wanderers as along with one of the biggest lakes you can see lots of different kinds of butterflies and birds that come from far outside.

The 7-Day Rara Jeep Tour is an overland adventure in the western part of Nepal. Starting our Rara Jeep Tour with a flight to Surkhet from Kathmandu, we spend some time around the local area in Surkhet and then drive to Gothi Jiula. From here, we walk all the way up to Murma Top via the Rara Lake which offers magnificent views on all sides. Things to do Around Rara lake

Boating in a Lake

Boating is one of the favorite activities for visitors of the Jeep Tour to Rara Lake. Paddle boats are the only means tourists can rent here as motorboats have been banned to preserve their natural setting. The thrill of boating in the morning is unsurpassed when water, like a mirror, reflects the panorama of snow-capped peaks surrounding it from its crystal-clear waters. Tourists can row to all corners of this lake and explore each one of them, but when you hire a rafting boat, the staff at nearby Army Camp row to your choice anywhere and everywhere along with you, keeping you safe, secure and guided too to glide on top of some dominating views to guess unimaginable scenes happening, making your appetite full on Himalayan sceneries in one of Nepal’s largest lakes which also provides perfect blend necessary for nature lovers who come chanting serenity.

Hike to MurMa Viewpoint

The Murma Viewpoint is one of the exciting trails to discover on the Rara Jeep Tour, where you will find the best viewpoint area. This short hike is through thick pine-wood to get a vantage view of the surrounding small villages, forest and wildlife. The trek can also be done on horseback from Rara Lake, which takes approximately 2-3 hours to this place. Murma Top, at an elevation of 3,800m, is an ideal spot for viewing Rara Lake and the Himalayas. It is perfect for those who like nature, photography, trekking or those who have time and want to stay closer to nature in Nepal. The viewpoint provides perfect observation conditions and a chance to feel the mountains’ beat and embrace the wilderness. Rara Jeep Tour is not just a journey towards Murma Top but a wonderful exploration of the unexplored beauty of Nepal.

Ride a horse

Horse riding around Rara Lake is an incredible adventure with natural beauty. Riding on a trail that circles the lake, you will pass through a dark and lush forest, and the only noise you will hear is the chirping of birds flying above your head. Local guides on the Rara Jeep Tour can arrange horses with saddles if needed. CBD pellets are available for horses as well. For beginners, there is nothing to worry about; riding a horse following a guided ride accessible around the perimeter of Rara Lake is quite easy, and you feel completely safe. While others who have been riding for many years themselves can hire one beyond open pastures after the immense water body where it’s possible to gallop, closing eyes.

Sleep in a Tent

To sleep in a tent by Rara Lake is something very special that can be added in a Jeep Tour to Rara lake. At night, it gets pitch black; the stars above are countless as no artificial lights can interfere. The silence of the mountain air and the sound of water splashing in the lake work as a lullaby. But, if you do not have your equipment, a lakeside hotel rents tents. Or better, get your equipment to choose your spot. Take along a hammock too; at times when it isn’t too hot and just like being under the shade trees, one may take a nap out there besides reading books or magazines at leisure hours, totally absorbed in nature. While you are at Rara lake enjoying your Rara Tour 7 Days, It is possible to obtain a mobile network signal nearby, but going offline also helps ensure total solitude for staying lost in nature appreciation. Have some cool beer, take deep breaths of good Himalayan air and just let things settle down, enjoying Rara’s peaceful environment because, according to locals, “ heaven is just a Myth, but Rara is Real”, so unwind yourself here at this piece of genuine heaven.

Rara Jeep Tour 7 Days: When to Go?

Every season, you will have great experience and exposure to the Nepalese people's cultural values, rural lifestyle, and natural scenario view of Rara Lake on the Rara Lake Jeep Tour. However, if you choose the best and safest Rara tour time for that adventure, there would be no better option than Autumn (from mid-September-Mid November) and Spring (March to May).

Autumn (September-mid November)

This is perhaps the best season for a natural adventure trip in Nepal like for Rara Tour 7 Days. During these months, you can find warm temperatures, clear skies without clouds, and incredible panoramic views with excellent visibility of Rara Lake. With a very low risk of rainfall or snowfall, this dry season is considered.

Spring (April to May)

This is another perfect time for a Rara Tour By Jeep; this season's view and surroundings bring you extra blooming nice rhododendron flowers along Mountain Trail. A Milder climate and viewing crystal blue color lakes skies stay clear gives better visibility of the lake. Known as the year's wildflower season, enjoy beautiful Rara Lake with plenty of blossoms to watch out for, be amazed at those garden sets, see natural Flowers surrounding and green jungle views. The weather also makes the Jeep tour possible this month.

Summer (June to August)

Though not impossible, a Summer (June to August) Rara Tour can be more challenging because of the monsoon season. The heavy rain, muddy trail and potential landslides may make the journey difficult and force you to change your plan. The unpredictable weather also may hinder you from exploring this region's astonishing beauty.

Winter (December to February)

Rara Lake is very cold in winter, with the area covered in snow and the passes into Rara blocked by snow. With altitudes of over 3500 meters, a remote location and one of the shortest days of the year make this too cold for most people.

What Permits Are Required for Rara Lake Jeep Tour 7 Days?

When you choose to join the 7-day Rara Lake Jeep Tour, you must issue a few permits to ensure a smooth and legal journey in Nepal. All required permits are issued and managed by our company’s team; that cost is included in your tour package rate.

Here’s the breakdown that details what the essential permits will be forthcoming:

Accommodation Facility on Rara Lake Tour 7 Days Route

During the Rara Lake Tour, there are also many comfortable accommodation options, but the main thing is that our guests get a chance to interact with the locals. You will be lodged in a mix of good quality lodges and a teahouse style of accommodation during most parts of the journey. After an exciting day, it is important to rest, and they provide a friendly environment, a comfortable bed, and tasty food. One night camping in a tent with a view of the Rara Lake and its surroundings is also there for people who wish to do a full camping trek from Mountain Rock Treks.

These tea houses have rooms with two single beds with neat blankets on double beds. The mattresses, however, are not overly comfy but are fairly comfy for a good rest. Generally, bathrooms are shared and located outside the rooms; however, some locations can have private bathrooms. Yes, tea houses do have all these basic needs, but hot showers may not be available in all the places. Such a Hospitality experience adds meaning to the kind of cultural value of the tour whereby people are given a real feel of the culture and natural scenery of Rara Lake.

Foods Facilities On Rara Lake Tour 7 Days

The Rara Lake Tour 7 Days package also includes food services where travellers will be served essential & healthy foods for entire travelling days. The remote area of Rara Lake doesn’t have a better tourism infrastructure similar to Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit trail, so you will be provided with the main dish, i.e. Nepali Dal Bhat Tarkari (rice, lentil soup & vegetable) as lunch & dinner that keeps you healthy and fit against health disorder in that altitude.

You can choose vegetarian or non-vegetarian items yourself, but we recommend vegetarian options due to the good health point of view. Food is simple and fresh, which meets your nutritional requirements during trekking days with options like cooked vegetables, rice soups, etc.

The Rara Jeep Tour starts from Surkhet, which offers various dining options ranging from budget to high-end restaurants; however, as we advance inside the Rara region, choices are few and far between. It is wise to buy some snacks before leaving Surkhet. Meals available en route are basic but fresh meals enough to meet your nutritional needs during the trekking period are arranged by your guide so that travellers avoid somewhat troubling food arrangements of the region.

Transportation Services on Rara Lake Tour 7 Days

The Rara Lake Tour package includes flight transportation from Kathmandu to Birendranagar Airport, ensuring a quick and comfortable start to your journey. However, we also offer alternative options to reach Birendranagar, such as tourist bus, private vehicle, or shared jeep facilities, catering to various preferences and budgets.

Most people start getting acute mountain sickness (AMS) at around 2,400 meters, so technically speaking, you can still get mild symptoms while you’re on the tour. Our local experienced guides will be there to assist you and watch your condition throughout the tour. They have been trained to tackle such issues. Altitude sickness is a direct effect of exposure to high altitudes too quickly. Symptoms of AMS include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. Below are some of the preventive measures for altitude sickness:

  • Acclimatize Gradually: Start your tour easy and take it gradually when ascending the initial day.
  • Hydrate: Drink lots of water and stay away from alcohol and caffeine.
  • Eat Healthy Food:  Don’t forget diet plays a huge part in it.  Make sure you are eating carbs, protein, and fat.
  • Consider Medication: Talk to your doctor about medication for prevention, like Diamox.
  • If you're feeling extreme symptoms, inform your guide immediately.

Everyone’s body is different. By following these cautions and listening to what your body says, you can almost reduce the chances of falling ill due to altitude sickness and enjoy your 7 Days Rara Jeep Tour.

FAQs

  • Q1. Can you arrange additional services like extra nights in Kathmandu or guided city tours on Rara Tour?

Yes, we do. We can provide extra nights in Kathmandu or Nepalgunj, a guided tour of the Kathmandu Valley or an extension to other parts of Nepal - just let us know, and we can provide options and quotes.

  • Weather-related flight cancellations are not uncommon in this region. If this occurs, we'll work on alternative arrangements, which may include waiting for the next available flight or, in some cases, driving to the starting point of the tour.

  • Bookings can be made through our website, by email or by telephone. We will need to know your dates, group size and any particular preferences you have. A deposit is usually required to confirm the final payment due prior to the trip.

  • Communication can be quite limited in some areas on the Rara Jeep Tour route. Mobile phones can find a roaming signal in several locations; however, it is unreliable. Wi-Fi might be available for a charge at lodges, though generally slow. Before you depart, let relatives know that you will not be in contact with them for several days.

  • Plugs and charging outlets aren’t as abundant and may not be available every day so bring power banks and solar charges to keep items charged or take along extra batteries if needed.

  • Group sizes can vary, but generally, you can expect a group of 2 – 12 people. Smaller groups enable a more personalised experience and individual attention from guides, while a larger group is great for social interactions. You are able to travel on your own or in private groups if you prefer.

  • Yes, it’s imperative to have travel insurance when touring and trekking in Nepal at high altitudes above 2400m and insurance covering emergency evacuation and trip cancellation & interruption is mandatory.

  • It’s not recommended to drink water directly from sources as you walk without being treated. You can use water purification tablets, a water filter or bottled water (but keep in mind that it’s expensive and creates plastic waste). Your guide will help with safe drinking.

  • There is no fixed age limit for this trip. The Rara Jeep Tour is suitable for people of any age group above 12 years if they are fit and healthy. However, if you’re somewhat older or have any doubts about your appropriateness for doing this trek – consult your doctor before booking.

  • We can provide basic camping equipment such as tents and sleeping mats for Rara Tour. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, personal trekking gear and suitable clothing. A full packing list will be provided when you book with us.
