From Chhomrong Up To Bamboo

The trek up to Annapurna Base Camp has a lot of teahouses and hotels (up to Chhomrong) that tend to be better quality than the more basic accommodations down the line, so it serves as a great place to get a little break before moving into more remote areas of the trek.

Most of the teahouses that you will find at Chhomrong will generally have good accommodation and rooms that are clean with hot showers, acceptable meal options, and a place to rest for a few minutes or lunch before you move on.

From Chhomrong Up To Bamboo

The teahouses appear to be slightly more basic than those you find in Chomrong, because the trek becomes more remote (i.e. there are simpler facilities in the teahouses compared to Chomrong with less amenities overall, and you notice basic meal options and accommodations being used more frequently).

The teahouses do seem to improve once you pass Jiu Danda and once you past Bamboo you do have more options for both your accommodation and food.

WThe flight is about 30 minutes in duration and you will have unbelievable views of the Langtang, Manaslu and Annapurna mountain ranges from your window.

When you arrive in Pokhara, you'll check into a luxury three-star resort, which is a well-established hotel providing high-quality service and spacious accommodation.e will meet after your five-star hotel breakfast and start your Kathmandu sightseeing day tour at 9:00 AM.

We are going to show you around Kathmandu to some of the most culturally and historically important places of interest in Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and Bouddhanath Stupas (All UNESCO World Heritage Sites).

Tours are conducted in private vehicles, and your expert professional guides will provide you with shared commentary and accurate particulars.  After the sightseeing, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan Domestic Airport for your flight to Pokhara (850m).

Having eaten breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara, you take a ride in a private jeep to Nayapul the morning after you arrive, and enjoy the beautiful countryside while driving there. Today's journey is mostly by drive, with only about one hour of trekking.

As you drive through Nayapul, you'll be likely driving alongside the Seti Gandaki River, seeing beauty in lovely villages, terraced fields. After Nayapul, you will cross a suspension bridge, confirming your trek officially begins, and you will reach the beautiful village of Birethanti.

You will trek through Sudame and Hile as you stop to have a good lunch at a local teahouse. The trek itself is straightforward, with clear markings, mainly on stone steps and a little incline through a rhododendron forest with some view of the hills in the distance.

The second highlight is the infamous Ulleri staircase. Prepare for this tough trek to Ulleri, which will climb around 3,000 steps, but it will be well worth it. Your first day of trekking will finish in Ulleri, and you will be welcome into the most luxurious lodge, with a clean room and hot shower.

Dinner will be served in the lodge dining area, where local and international food will be offered.  The village has beautiful views of the Annapurna range and will be peaceful and calm for a sound night's sleep.

After a nourishing breakfast at your lodge in Ulleri, we will begin a pleasant walk to Ghorepani. This is a fairly well-defined and busy trail that will take us uphill, sometimes steeply, along a lovely winding path through dense rhododendron and oak forests, enhanced by both the sounds of singing or chattering birds and the fragrance from the flowers.

During the hike, we will walk through such picturesque villages as Banthanti and Nangethanti, where we can stop for tea and snacks. We will also stop for a light lunch at a teahouse in Nangethanti, where you will have some very nice views of the surrounding hills and forests.

Although the path goes mostly uphill (with some steep stone steps and sometimes some covering from sun obstacles), this will be a very nice and pleasant hike. When you arrive at Ghorepani, you will check into a very comfortable and high-end lodge with spectacular views and creature comforts.

Getting up early to hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m) this day will introduce you to the most recognized site in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The hike to the top is a steady, gentle incline. You will walk steadily through dense rhododendron (magical) forests. They arrive in less than 1.5 hours, giving time to see the sunrise.

The wide-angle panoramic view of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre gleaming brightly in the new day's light is brilliant.

After sunrise, you will return to Ghorepani for a warm breakfast. After breakfast, you will trek to Tadapani, winding your way along a lovely ridge through dense green forests, the faint sounds of small streams, and singing birds twinkling in every direction; you might be lucky to see some wildlife on the serene trail. You will stop to take lunch in a teahouse along the diversion or detour.

You will arrive in Tadapani in the late afternoon/book into a luxury lodge. Eating dinner by the fire with beautiful mountain views from the window.

We will begin with a gourmet breakfast in Tadapani and then begin walking toward Chhomrong. The walk will begin going down through rhododendron and oak forests. With any luck, we may see monkeys; we may see some fine mountain birds, too, if they are flying in the sky. We will traverse several suspension bridges that cross the Modi Khola and experience the fury of the river below.

While we will be technically trekking, the adventure will also be a socio-cultural one, where we will stop at several charming and unique villages that reflect the Gurung culture, including Ghandruk, which features stone houses and stunning vistas of the north Himalayan range.

There will be areas for level walking and some slight uphills and downhills, where we will stop at a local teahouse (with stunning views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna massif) for lunch in Chhomrong.

When we finally reach Chhomrong, we will check into a proper place with luxury lodge-quality warm hospitality with great amenities and have a hearty, cosy dinner talk of combining local with international cuisine while we relish the breathtaking sunset views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

After a delectable breakfast in Chhomrong, we begin our trek with a stout descent into the Modi Khola, crossing a suspension bridge in the confines of the valley.

The trek continues as a gentle ascent through some verdant bamboo and rhododendron forests broken up by the rare opening for panoramic views higher up the valley. We will pass through stops like Lower Sinuwa, Upper Sinuwa, and Bamboo, nestled in the greenery.

We will stop for lunch in Sinuwa at a teahouse and enjoy the fresh air atmosphere and sonic enchantment of the forest. Upon leaving Sinuwa, we start hiking on a moderately steep trail.

After reaching Dovan, you will check into a comfortable lodge with great accommodations and some comfort.

You will begin your hike from Dovan by having breakfast at your teahouse before you begin your hike up to Deurali; it starts off gradually and then gets steep and rocky as you hike through the forests of rhododendrons and fir trees.

You have the beautiful site of the Himalaya Hotel on the trail; you will also cross many little streams and hear the rushing water as you hike.

Your lunch is at a teahouse in Deurali, where you have a chance to rest your legs and enjoy the views of the high peaks of Annapurna. The hiking trail from the teahouse to a teahouse in Deurali will become skinny and rugged.

However, it's a good trail. There are only a few steps of rock and narrow paths that you will pass over. As you hike closer to Deurali, you will start to notice the trees are getting shorter, and you will see more types of alpine vegetation.

At the lodge in Deurali, you will have a very comfortable lodge with warm rooms that offer healthy food.

Begin your day with breakfast at Deurali, and prepare for a very long day of hiking to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). The trail will descend and then quickly start ascending to ABC, along with rocky paths, and you will step in between Machhapuchhre Base Camp, so take the time to look at the huge Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) peak.

As you ascend, the air will be thinner; once again, there is no hurry, and taking your time is key.

Lunch will be inside the base camp area and surrounded by the towering mountains of Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and Hiunchuli. The trail will now display an amphitheater in the shape of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

You are amongst Himalayan giants and are seeing unbelievable tentacled mountain peaks in every direction. The views will be breathtaking, and you may see different types of glaciers, moraines, and jagged peaks.

This section of the trek will be challenging, however you will be in a teahouse in ABC that should have warm rooms and plenty of food options to try and celebrate at ABC.

After breakfast at Annapurna Base Camp, you will head back down to Sinuwa, following the same route again, going through the Annapurna Sanctuary, back past Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Deurali. While the descent steep sections have even better views of stunning mountain scenery.

Lunch will be at a teahouse in Bamboo, a very small valley village deep in the forest. The trail continues through the rhododendron and bamboo groves with waterfalls and the chance to see some birds. The cooler air and shaded trail made the descent relatively refreshing and comfortable.

At Sinuwa, we will be staying in a very cozy lodge with rooms that are very comfortable, with hot showers and nutritious, healthy food menus options for dinner.

Eat breakfast at Sinuwa, and then walk downhill to Jhinu Hill and the natural hot springs. The trail will be mostly downhill with a winding trail of forest and agricultural terraces.

Along the way, you will cross the Modi Khola 3-4 times on suspension bridges and might stop along the way at small villages to acclimatize yourselves with the panoramas.

You will eat lunch at one of the teahouses just below Jhinu Danda and various sitting places for you to sit down, rest, and prepare your legs to relax and enjoy the hot springs. Most of the day will be downhill, and the trail is well maintained; thus, no real worries about your hike today; this will be a relatively easy hiking day with not too many challenges.

You will stay at a lodge with comfortable rooms in Jhinu Hill and bathe in a warm hot spring, complete with hot springs for mineral hot springs. You may even be able to soak after dinner in hot mineral water to soak your tired limbs; what a way to wrap up a day of hiking.

After breakfast on Jhinu Hill (1,780m), you will begin your remarkable drive to Pokhara (820m) in a private vehicle,  traveling through gorgeous hilly and traditional villages, you will enjoy outstanding views of the Annapurna range and Modi Khola valley.

The drive is a scenic one, lasting about 1.5 hours, as you will see some spectacular rivers and hills and some signs of rural village life along the way. After arriving in Pokhara, you will be transferred to your comfortable three-star hotel to rejuvenate and relax. The afternoon is yours to enjoy

Pokhara offers a serene Phewa Lake and a lively Lakeside area with thrilling views of Machapuchare (Fishtail) and Annapurna South.  Picture Pokhara perched on green hills with cascading waterfalls and awing views of the snow-capped Himalayas.

Since the remaining day is free you can go for a 3-4 hr sightseeing tour around Pokhara where you can explore the lakeside promenade, hike up to the World Peace Pagoda, or go for a short boat ride on Phewa Lake.

After eating breakfast at your upscale hotel in Pokhara, you will be taken to Pokhara Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. The flight is only about 146 kilometres, and it is about 25 minutes, so again an easy, quick and comfortable way to travel rather than a long drive of about 8-9 hours.

Not to mention nice views of the pretty valleys and Himalayan foothills below. After arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, your transport will take you to your luxury three-star hotel for one last night in Nepal.

Farewell Dinner will be organized by the company,  your last gourmet meal in Nepal, and you can find the time to reflect on your Annapurna Base Camp adventure in comfort and style.

On your final day, you can completely relax after your nice breakfast at your upscale Kathmandu hotel. If you have time on your hands to casually relax or possibly even do some last-minute shopping in the busy area of Thamel, which is exciting and vibrant in the city.

When the time arrives, you will be privately driven by vehicle to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home and international departure.

We are pleased to offer the flexibility of tailoring your journey to your desired duration and places, whether extended or shortened, as our proficient team of locals-cum-guides, porters, and accompanying staff have an in-depth understanding of every location traveled.

The ideal seasons to trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) are Spring and Autumn (March to May and Late September to November, respectively). These two seasons tend to provide the best chance for comparably stable weather, good visibility and moderate temperatures where you can enjoy your luxury trek to ABC with cozy accommodation and amazing mountain views.

                              Spring (March to May)

                              • Weather: Stable, mild and clear; rhododendron forests in peak bloom.

                              • Pros: Generally good trekking conditions and visibility; not too crowded (like the peak of autumn).
                              • Cons: it can get humid, and there can be some pre-monsoon showers in May; that being said, usually have clear mornings.
                              • Best For: Trekkers wanting a scenic experience, flowers in bloom, and moderate temperatures, then springtime should get your vote.

Autumn Season (Late September to November)

                              • Weather: Bright, dry, cool and stable.
                              • Temperature: Daytime highs will be between 10 and 15 °C (50-59 °F); nighttime lows might hit the below-freezing mark.
                              • Trail Conditions: Trails are in very good dry shape with very little rain, perfect for trekking!!
                              • Pros: Cool, steady breeze; open, uninterrupted views looking in 360 degrees around glorious mountains; trekking in prime season; many chances to take in cultural and festival events in close proximity.
                              • Cons: Demand for high-end luxury accommodation is very high; be sure to book very early.
                              • Best For: Trekkers looking for clear skies and cultural and festival events in close proximity.

Summer / Monsoon Season (June to Mid-September)

                              • Weather: Warm, humid weather and rain are more common.
                              • Temperature: 20-25 C (68-77 F) during the day; cooler nights may be around freezing at upper elevations.
                              • Trail Conditions: Trails are slippery and muddy; landslide potential and leeches are part of the conditions.
                              • Pros: The green lush areas and no trekkers.
                              • Cons: No; not really appropriate for luxury trekking due to wet conditions and low visibility.
                              • Best for: Experienced trekkers looking for a lonely explorer experience in lush scenery; not good for the luxury trek.

                              Winter Season (December to February)

                              • Weather Conditions: Cold, dry weather and sunny days but very cold temps.

You are going to have to enjoy the fun and excitement of discovering the Annapurna Base Camp Premium trek, but it will be with extra comfort and, for sure.

Suggested Preparation For Annapurna Base Camp Deluxe Trekking

For the Annapurna Base Camp Deluxe Trek you will need to be moderately fit and have a mentally fit state of mind. While the track to Annapurna Base Camp is the same as the classic trek, the deluxe equipment and services will help add to the comfort of your trek.

We also recommend that you train for the Annapurna Base Camp Deluxe Trek a minimum of 2 - 3 months in advance. Followed are the recommended training considerations:

                              Physical Training

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek consists of multiple days of hiking on uneven terrain and moderate elevation gain. If you are able to follow some or all of the basic considerations recommended below, then you should be prepared to go on the adventure:

                              • Cardio Training: The cardio training you undertake will improve your stamina. Suggested activities include running, walking quickly, swimming or cycling.
                              • Strength Training: You will need to build muscle strength for the hills. Suggested strength training workouts include squats, lunges, step-ups and/or leg presses.
                              • Practice Hikes: If you have the luxury of time, you should try to do some short hikes here and there (little by little) or hike collective hill climbs so that your body can train itself to do the long walks.

                              Mental Preparation

Trekking in the Himalayas will be a mental challenge no matter what.  Even if you have luxury accommodation, having a positive attitude and persistence will ensure a successful trekking trips.

                              • Meditate: Developing a practice of daily mindfulness, or meditation, in whichever form suits you, will help you greatly in maintaining good focus and mental peace while trekking.
                              • Positive Contemplation: Being aware that you are just going on an adventure and only considering anything that surrounds you and the beauty of where you trek, rather than all the problems you could think about.

Is Travel Insurance Required for Deluxe Annapurna Base Camp Trekking?

Yes, even on a deluxe 14-day Annapurna Base Camp trek, travel insurance is still very useful. You might be staying in a luxury lodge room or using private transfers, but you are still in a mountain environment at altitude, and emergencies can strike unexpectedly, such as altitude sickness or injuries.

Often, helicopter evacuations cost well over $10,000 – which is why insurance covers high-altitude rescues and medical expenses to be your safety net.

A lot of trekking agencies and permit offices would also want you to present proof of coverage for altitudes of 4,200-5,500 m at higher altitudes. So yes – deluxe trek or not, please ensure you have relevant travel insurance.

The team were very professional throughout the entire process from booking the trek to the conclusion of the trek. They did everything, so I was able to enjoy the actual trek. The guides were reassuring throughout each and every trek, and the porters were very friendly, too.

The price point for the trip package seemed reasonable, given the level of service and the extraordinary views I experienced. I would certainly trek with Mountain Rock Treks again.
