Moreover, Lumbini Buddhist Circuit Tour is a pilgrimage that visits several important Buddhist sites in Nepal, including Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Kapan Gompa, Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), and Chitwan. Simply put, most of Nepal's UNESCO World Heritage sites are included in the journey; Hindu and Buddhist devotees place significant value on these locations.

Moreover, you may discover more about Buddhism in Nepal by visiting Buddhist sites there. Research and archaeology are the main groups who carry out this work to collect diverse ancient buried knowledge. Still, the number of pilgrims visiting the area is increasing daily in numbers more than the researchers and archaeologists.

The Buddhist Circuit Tour in Nepal brings you to a backdrop brimming with the ethereal spirit of harmony and calm in the country of Gautam Buddha's birth. The Lumbini, Boudhanath, Swayambhu, and other Buddhist pilgrimage sites that are important to all Buddhists are included in this exquisite 8-day Buddhist Circuit Tour Itinerary. The journey to Buddhist pilgrimages gets you closer to the locations where Gautam Buddha's teachings are preserved.

One of the places we will visit as part of the Buddhist Circuit Tour Package 2023-2024 is Boudhanath, which is known as the largest Stupa in Nepal. Every Buddhist in the nation regards Boudhanath in the highest regard. Your soul will certainly feel rejuvenated and relieved of any stresses from the outside world after your vacation in Buddhist circles, which will only surround you in harmony.

History of Lumbini

Approximately 2500 years ago, around 566 BC, the birth of Siddhartha Gautam took place in Lumbini. As his mother, Maya Devi, traveled to her maternal home, she experienced the onset of labor pains, according to sacred texts.

She clung to its branches in the shade of a tree and gave birth to Lord Buddha. Right after his birth, it is said that he proclaimed it as his final rebirth and took seven steps, with a lotus flower blooming under each step. Siddhartha Gautam, a prince of the Shakya kingdom, who was believed to have ruled in central Terai from their capital at Titaurakot, later attained enlightenment, transforming into Buddha, the ultimate source of world peace and prosperity, liberated from the cycle of birth and death.

One of the world's great religions has its roots in Lumbini, which has also served as the site of the nation's most important archaeological find, dating back to the third century BC. Lumbini is arguably the most significant historical site in the world, which is why UNESCO even included it on the list of world heritage sites in 1997. According to the BBC travel team, Lumbini is one of the top 10 religious pilgrimage locations on the planet. An estimate indicates that around 100,000 tourists visit the Lumbini trip each year. This demonstrates the universe's significance and notoriety.

What to Expect on Lumbini Buddhist Circuit Tour

Today, the extended Lumbini complex stretches over three miles (4.8 km) and holds a significant position as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It comprises numerous monasteries constructed in the unique styles of various Buddhist nations, the revered Bodhi tree, an ancient bathing pond, the renowned Ashokan pillar, and the Maya Devi Temple.

Notably reflecting the principle of non-attachment in Buddhism, the temple complex at Lumbini exudes a serene and relaxed atmosphere. While a continuous stream of pilgrims from Burma, Thailand, and China quietly pass by the main shrine, the place never feels overcrowded. Its beauty lies not in extravagant displays but in the few remaining brick stupa bases, ancient monastery walls, and the historical pool where the queen and her infant once bathed. The site's allure emanates from its spiritual significance, serving as a sanctuary for meditation, contemplation, and profound reverence. In Buddhism, luxury and ostentation find no place.

While you absolutely can travel by foot, you can also rent a bicycle and spend a delightful half-day travelling from one monastery to another.

Start with the spectacular golden pagoda in Burmese architecture, then go via the incredibly elaborate temple in Cambodia to the Sri Lankan monastery, where monks give visitors holy white threads to wrap around their wrists. Soon you'll find a massive stupa in the Tibetan style sitting next to a temple in the Chinese style that appears to have been taken directly from Beijing's Forbidden City. A-Z of Buddhist architectural styles is shown visually, illuminating how the religion adapted to different local cultures as it moved throughout East Asia.

Is Lumbini Circuit Tour Right For You?

Lumbini, a UNESCO world heritage site, attracts numerous pilgrims and tourists annually. Aside from its birthplace, it boasts fascinating Buddhist temples and monasteries donated from various countries - Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, and even France. It feels like a journey through South East Asia. However, this might not be your ideal destination if you're not keen on temples or Buddhism. Additionally, the local hotels and restaurants may not meet your expectations, potentially turning it into a nightmare. Yet, a night's stay is certainly worth it for those intrigued by Buddhist culture, history, and stunning architecture.

Essential Info

Our Lumbini Circuit Tour covers the main attractions of Lumbini

Maya Devi Temple-

Maya Devi Temple is one of the oldest ancient Buddhist temples in Lumbini and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also regarded as the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The temple is located in the midst of the park grounds known as the Lumbini Growth Zone, and its continual growth makes it a must-see sight.

Bodhi Tree

The Bodhi Tree in Lumbini is situated on the grounds of the Maya Devi Temple complex close to the shrine on the banks of the tranquil Maya Devi Pond. Buddhist monks frequently meditate and sing sacred texts while sitting under the tree. Locals believe wishes expressed while tying a colorful prayer flag are commonly realized. The tree is an ancient peepal tree, or Ficus Religiosa, covered in colorful prayer flags.

MayaDevi Pond

The Maya Devi Pond in Lumbini is a square-shaped construction with stairs to descend to the water level. It is situated directly in front of the Maya Devi Temple. This location, also known as Puskarini, was formerly utilized for bathing by Maya Devi, the mother of Gautama Buddha. Lord Buddha took his first bath in this pond. The birthplace of Buddha is now a magnificent temple, and the Maya Devi pond is situated just in front of the shrine. On certain occasions, oil lights are lit after sunset to venerate the sacred location on the stairs around the pond.

The Ashoka Pillar

The Ashoka Pillar in Lumbini is one of the stone pillars created during Emperor Ashoka's reign in the third century. Ashoka constructed it as a token of respect after visiting Lord Buddha's birthplace and deciding to adopt Buddhism. These features make the pillar a very prominent tourist attraction in the country.

Lumbini Museum

The Lumbini Museum is housed within the Sacred Garden Area's UNESCO World Heritage Site. It showcases around 12000 objects, including religious texts, metal sculptures, Terra Cotta, coins from the Maurya and Khusana dynasties, and stamps from throughout the globe featuring Lumbini.

Buddhism Royal Thai Monastery

A Buddhist monastery dedicated to practices, Royal Thai Buddhist Monastery, is of the what style. Its look is enhanced by using white marble in constructing this lovely structure. A beautiful illustration of refined architectural styles is seen in this monument. Because of the intricately carved temple, it is a must-see location.

Buddhism in Sri Lanka

Insight into the life of Gautama Buddha, which is crucial for Buddhist culture and traditions, is provided by this stunning monastery. There is a belief that even as a visitor, living at the monastery presents a person with various options. Chanting and understanding- and spiritual-power-enhancement exercises work best here.

Importance of Buddhist Circuit Tour

Prince Gautama, who attained enlightenment to become Lord Buddha, was born in Lumbini. This area has several monasteries, pagodas, and other holy Buddhist places. Lumbini is the center of Buddhism, to put it simply. Tourists travel to Lumbini primarily for this reason. It is not, however, the sole explanation.

The ideal location to take in the local culture is here. One may imagine old cultures and Buddhism traditions in monasteries and meditation institutes. Tourists are welcome to participate in these rites as well.

Lumbini has fundamental agricultural practices. Visit sites, mustard fields, and rice paddies while cycling through rural areas. You may see folks using crude instruments to conduct agriculture.

Look for an Indian monument at Lumbini. This settlement is home to the Ashoka Pillar, which King Ashoka erected. Incense sticks are used during meditation and prayers to this pillar.

If you go during the summer, you may see a variety of bird species close to the fields. You may see owls, gypsies, Indian spotted eagles and other endangered species.

Lumbini does not see a lot of trekking. Sixty-four archeological sites are dispersed around the region, but you may hike the Lumbini circuit to find them.

Things to Do in Lumbini

Now that we have finished seeing the sights, it is time to consider what you may do while travelling to further enhance the experience. Therefore, the activities in Lumbini include:

- Immerse in Monastic Serenity: Roam the peaceful monasteries inhabited by devoted monks seeking peace and spirituality. Exploring monasteries helps delve into Buddhist traditions and rituals while witnessing the monks' community flourishing within these sacred spaces. Visit monasteries like the Myanmar Golden Temple, Mahabodhi Society Temple India, Chinese Monastery, and The Great Lotus Stupa, Germany Monastery, for a profound spiritual journey.

- Try Out Loca Foods on Lumbini's Streets: Treat your taste buds to delectable street food while in Lumbini. This is the best way to explore the vibrant array of flavors without missing the taste of home. As Lumbini is close to the Indian border, you'll find a delightful blend of Indian cuisine that will leave you craving more.

- Pedal Through Serene Villages: Leave the conventional taxis behind and opt for a rental bicycle to truly experience Lumbini's beauty. With this, you can explore the nearby traditional villages and connect with the local culture while being closer to nature. Sightseeing on a bicycle opens up a unique window to the region's rural life.

- Find Inner Peace in Meditation Classes: Escape the hustle of the 21st century and make time for your well-being. Attend meditation classes led by monks in Lumbini to rejuvenate your mind and spirit. Meditation helps to experience relaxation, stress relief, improved concentration, and enhanced focus, all in the serene ambiance of Bodhi Tree, the perfect place for meditation.

Best Time For Lumbini Buddhist Circuit Tour

Every traveller considers the weather while making travel arrangements.

To make the most suitable choice for visiting Lumbini, consider your preferences. If you enjoy winter, plan your trip during that season. Alternatively, opt for the summer season if that's more to your liking.

April to May is considered a moderate time to visit Lumbini. This period holds special significance as it marks the celebration of Lord Buddha's birth, attracting Buddhists from various parts of the world to Nepal to observe Buddha Jayanti. Hindu devotees also flock to Lumbini during this time, as they consider Lord Buddha to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The enchanting ambiance of Lumbini during this celebration is truly captivating.

For a different experience, you can visit Lumbini inOctober and November, which fall under the autumn season. During these months, the weather cools down, and witnessing the sunrise and sunset becomes an awe-inspiring and soul-soothing experience.

However, it is advisable to avoid the months between December and February due to extremely low temperatures, sometimes as cold as 30°C. Apart from these months, you can choose any time that aligns with your preferences.

Client Reviews

  • The collection of Buddhist Temples

Lumbini's monastic complex is stunning. There are several temples from other nations, but the birthplace of Lord Buddha is perhaps the most great and beautiful one. If you do have time for a few days, then take a Lumbini Buddhist pilgrimage tour by Mountain Rock Treks and try to see the Lumbini and as many temples/monasteries as possible. People occasionally take ricksha and attempt to view everything because there are so many. Don't do that; instead, stroll and enjoy a visit to a couple of temple visits.

  • A trip to LUMBINI

I don't think it gets much better than this if you enjoy touring Buddhist temples and other landmarks. Due to the presence of the birthplace temple of the Buddha in this region, it appears that many nations have constructed monasteries here. Lumbini probably had over a dozen visitors from countries like China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, France, Germany, and even one person specifically mentioned the United States. Lumbini in Nepal is the best of all. During my travels in Nepal, I became friends with the owner of my tour company, Deepak, and he planned my 8-day trip to Lumbini. Hence, I was fortunate to receive some.
