This resulted in the closure of Lukla Airport and caused difficulties for trekkers. In October also, the best treks can plan their trek during the second or third week of October to avoid potential flight delays. In non-remote areas, houses will be decorated with festive lights to mark the celebrations.

Trekkers choosing October seasons to embark on the base camp f EBC will also have the chance to witness the Sherpa festival of Mani Rimdu.

The festivities occur in the tiny village of Tengboche. Tengbcohe is home to the region's most significant monastery, the Tengboche Monastery. This place is surrounded by stunning views of peaks, including stunning Ama Dablam. During Mani Rimdu, the monks perform symbolic dances in ornate costumes and masks to defeat demons. This unique view is an exceptional and unforgettable experience for visitors.

Along with these festivals, Nepal has many other celebrations that make the trip more enjoyable. With the bonus of sampling regional specialties, a trek during Nepal's festive season will be an incredible adventure.

Thame Festival: This is a joyous occasion for the Sherpa community. It is celebrated by locals residing in the Thame village in the Solu Khumbu region. The festival is held in honor of the local deity. The deity is believed to safeguard the town from natural calamities. The festivities include traditional dances, music, and offerings made to the deity. The festival's highlight is the mesmerizing masked dance performed by the monks, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Dashain Festival:- Nepal's most significant Hindu festival Dashain, is celebrated for two weeks with prayer and devotion. The festival includes prayers and offerings to Durga, the Universal Mother Goddess. Dashain is also an opportunity for families to reunite, exchange gifts, and receive blessings through elaborate pujas. The festival honors Durga, who embodies the shakti or energy of all the gods and carries weapons from each.

Tihar Festival: Nepal's second most significant Hindu festival is a five-day festival of lights honoring Yama, the God of Death, and Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth. Tihar is a time of worship, decoration with lights, and the exchange of gifts among loved ones. The festivities predominantly feature the worship of Laxmi while simultaneously honoring Yama.

Mani Rimdu Festival:- Mani Rimdu is a 19-day festival celebrated by Buddhists in the Himalayas, marking the founding of Buddhism through Rinpoche Padmasambhava. The festival occurs in the monasteries of Tengboche, Thame, and Chiwong, where Buddhist monks perform great shows featuring masked dances and Tantric rituals. Huge crowds from nearby regions gather for the festivities, making Mani Rimdu a remarkable event.

Regular Flights To Lukla Conditions

Normal Lukla Flight:-

The Kathmandu Lukla Flight Schedule is a blueprint for flight operations, but it's not always guaranteed due to unexpected weather or emergencies. Despite these factors, operators strive to adhere to the schedule and provide pre-flight information in case of delays. Your patience is crucial in such situations. While landing is usually smooth, taking off can take longer due to weather or physical constraints. However, the operators allow flights until 4 pm, so if your aircraft departs within the allotted time, you can expect a timely return to Kathmandu. Otherwise, you may have to wait for the next day's flight. Patience is key in such scenarios, and it helps alleviate stress for both you and the operators. Sometimes, the runway can become slippery due to snow or high winds, causing delays or cancellations.

Nevertheless, Lukla's climate changes frequently; clear weather conditions usually follow shortly after. Climate change cannot be accurately predicted. But past experiences suggest October is one of the best months for Kathmandu Lukla flights.

Lukla, a vibrant center for mountaineering, beckons multitudes of trekkers each year, cementing its status as one of Nepal's liveliest regions. Its reputation skyrocketed after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzin Norgay Sherpa conquered Mount Everest from this locale. Whether in the height of the season or off-season, up to 10,000 trekkers, tourists, and locals revel in exploring this vicinity. Lukla's busiest season is autumn and spring, from February to November. The skies remain crystal clear, delivering a scenic picture of the awe-inspiring peaks. These months are the peak of tourism, causing the area to become crowded, which can vex visitors. Nevertheless, the area's natural allure swiftly compensates for the crowds.

Manthali Flight:-

October falls under one of the busiest seasons of tourism in Nepal. Due to this reason, there are not many flights operating from Kathmandu to Lukla. You must take a flight from Kathmandu to Manthali and Lukla.

This may feel like a surprising change in your flight route to Lukla and back. The Nepal Government, Civil Aviation Department, has announced that all Lukla flights will now operate from Ramechap, located in Mid-East Nepal, instead of Kathmandu. The reason behind this change is heavy air traffic, especially during peak seasons like in October for trekking and other adventures in the Nepal Himalayas. As Kathmandu International Airport shares runways with international flights, maintaining flight schedules becomes congested and challenging. This often leads to delays and cancellations, especially for flights going to mountainous airports like Lukla.

Flying from Ramechap, Manthali Airport will make your journey shorter and more reliable. Moreover, Lukla flights from Kathmandu and Ramechhap airports must depart early in the morning until mid-day, depending on the weather conditions and air routes.

To travel one way as an Indian national, the cost is INR 9500 per person, which includes transportation. Interestingly, the proximity of Lukla Airport to Ramechhap Airport surpasses that of Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Therefore, taking the Manthali to Lukla flight from Ramechhap is a smoother option. This route presents a remarkable opportunity to discover three locations with comparable yet distinct terrains and flora, making it a great way to experience beautiful sights. To book your flight, you can choose between Oneway or Bothway. To proceed with the booking, you must give your Full Name, Passport Number, Country of Origin, Gender, Date of Birth, Average Weight, and Travel Date. Also, each passenger is permitted up to 10 KG of checked luggage and 7 KG of carry-on luggage. For the Ramechhap to Lukla route, most airlines offer daily departures for both Oneway and Bothway options. The cost per person for Oneway is USD 157, while Bothway is USD 314.

How Can You Get To Lukla From Kathmandu?

1. Regular Flights:

You can get from Kathmandu to Lukla by taking a domestic flight, which typically lasts around 35 minutes. For the best ideas, sitting on the plane's left side is recommended. Foreign travelers expect to pay approximately US $180 per person for a one-way ticket to Lukla from Kathmandu, while Indian travellers will be charged NRP 14,700 per person. Nepalese passengers will only need to pay NRP 5,500 per person. Flights to Lukla operate in the morning from 6:30 am to 12 pm, with around ten flights available daily. Popular airlines offering this route include Tara Air, Sita Air, Summit Air, and Simrik Airlines. Flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are usually safe. But, delays due to weather conditions in Kathmandu, Lukla, or en route are common. To make sure you have all critical international connections, it is advisable to build in a few buffer days in your itinerary for the Everest region.

2. Helicopter Flight To and From Lukla:

If budget is not a concern, a spectacular and unforgettable way to reach Lukla is by helicopter. Departing from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu, you can arrive in Lukla in under an hour. As you soar through the sky, you'll witness the breathtaking transition from Kathmandu's lush, farm-covered terrain to the chilly and barren mountains. Many helicopter travelers from Lukla continue their adventure to the Base Camp of Everest for a sightseeing flight before returning to Kathmandu on the same day.

Consider a helicopter ride from Kathmandu to Lukla if you prioritize comfort and have some flexibility in your budget. Opting for a helicopter ride as a backup plan could prove more dependable than domestic flights, mainly in the event of inclement weather or flight cancellations. The journey from Kathmandu to Lukla via helicopter generally takes around 45 minutes. Chartering a helicopter ranges from US $2200 to US $3000. The helicopter can accommodate up to 5 passengers, allowing you to share the cost with your travel companions. A 45-minute helicopter ride to Lukla offers an awe-inspiring adventure, mainly for those with a flexible budget. As you depart from the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Tribhuvan Airport, a scenic journey unfolds before you. You'll witness the rolling hills of Kathmandu's agricultural landscape. Once you arrive in Lukla, many adventurers continue their journey to EBC for a thrilling sightseeing flight before returning to Kathmandu on the same day.

3. By Road Or Hike:-

Instead of taking the conventional route, it is possible to trek from Kathmandu to Lukla, albeit less traveled in October. One can take a Jeep ride for a day to either Jiri or Phaplu towns and commence trekking from there to reach Lukla. The trek from Jiri is also known as the "Pioneers' Route," as it was the pioneering path mountaineers took to reach Lukla before the airport was built in the 1960s.

The trek from Phaplu to Lukla can be completed in three days, whereas the one from Jiri takes five. These trails are not commonly used by trekkers nowadays. However, those who choose this route appreciate the gradual change in landscape and culture as they approach the Everest region. Kathmandu to Bhandar or Phaplu, then trekking to the Lukla route, known as the "Pioneers' Route, was the original way mountaineers reached Lukla before the airport was built in the 1960s.

If you need transportation from Kathmandu to Salleri, you can count on a jeep to make the daily journey. Departing from Chabahil Chowk Bus Station between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM, the trip typically lasts between eight and nine hours. The cost for an individual to travel in the jeep usually falls between 45 USD and 75 USD, with fluctuations possible based on fuel prices. With space for up to eight passengers, reserving the entire jeep for a private group of 5 to 6 individuals costs between $350 and $600.

4. Flight From Kathmandu To Ramechap:-

The flights to and from Lukla have a notorious reputation for cancellations and delays, with wind and fog being the primary culprits. These cancellations may occur in the peak seasons, like in October. However, traffic congestion at Kathmandu Airport has only exacerbated the issue. Trekkers have been forced to endure extended stays on the cold floors of Lukla Airport, even when weather conditions are favorable. The situation has become so dire that even the Hon. The Prime Minister's flight was delayed by 20 minutes due to air traffic congestion. This problem will only worsen in the future.

To address this issue, Ramechhap Airport offers a perfect alternative. This airport is dedicated solely to operating Lukla flights, making it a more efficient option. Some trekkers worry that traveling to Ramechhap will add extra days to their itinerary. However, there is a solution to this problem. By leaving Kathmandu at 2 or 3 am, travelers can catch their morning flight to Lukla without adding extra days. On the return trip, reaching Kathmandu the same day, only 5 hours later, is possible.

In addition to being more efficient, traveling to Ramechhap by road and flight to Lukla can save money. Two-way flights from Kathmandu to Lukla cost $360. Likewise, the two-way flight cost from Ramechhap to Lukla is only $308, including transportation from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. This means travelers can save $52, equivalent to 16 bottles of beer in Kathmandu (650ml worth $3 each).

How Busy Will the EBC Route Be In October?

October marks Nepal's trekking season's apex, which explains the surge in both costs and crowds. The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is Nepal's most popular hiking route, meaning it's highly improbable to have the paths all to yourself during this time. With tea houses filling up quickly, it's essential to have a dependable guide who can secure a comfortable resting spot. Additionally, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla may sell out several months before October. So make a pre-booking for the Everest Base Camp trek as soon as possible. If you wait until the last minute to make travel arrangements, you may need to be flexible with your flight schedules and preferred lodging standard. In the Everest region, many tea houses offer food and lodging. But during October, they get crowded due to the high influx of trekkers. As a result, it's common for these teahouses to reach maximum occupancy. Given the limited rooms and amenities, you might have to share a room with other trekkers. Only if you haven't made prior reservations. In such cases, sleeping in the dining room might be the only option.

However, this communal sleeping arrangement is not a cause for concern as it's common on the trek, and many trekkers spend the night together. Even if you don't get the same room you had hoped for, sleeping in the dining area with your fellow trekkers can be a fun experience that feels like a slumber party. So, booking your accommodations in advance is always advisable, but it will be fine if you take the chance.

In October, you can relish a comfortable walking experience on the dry trails of the Everest region as long as the temperatures remain bearable. However, the route can become unpleasant due to the crowds of trekkers along the path. For those who find the masses overwhelming, several lesser-known ways in the Everest region offer stunning views of Everest and its surroundings without the crowds. For introverts, the lack of privacy can pose a challenge while trekking. October is the busiest month, and the trails are teeming with visitors, leaving little room for solitude. If you prefer to trek without the hustle and bustle of crowds, October can be overwhelming. You'll encounter fellow trekkers at every corner. This makes it challenging to find a moment of peace.

Moreover, capturing a clear photo can be a waiting game, as you'll need to wait for the crowds to disperse. If you dislike traveling in large groups, there may be better choices than the EBC in October. If you want to avoid the crowd, you can also choose a helicopter ride to EBC at an affordable cost.
