The Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Landing Heli Tour is a tour that traverses from Kathmandu to the locations of Kalapatthar, Gokyo Lake, and Hotel Everest View, which are perched at altitudes of 5,545 meters, 4,790 meters, and 3,880 meters, respectively. The tour requires around 5-6 hours at most from the point of departure to the point of return, including around 60 minutes of flying time for refueling at Lukla, covering an aerial distance of around 360 kilometers. The time the tourists have on the ground is kept short, only 10-15 minutes on Kalapatthar, because of the altitude difference over the distance traversed; hence, the aircraft climbs 2,705 meters in 30 minutes, which involves flying, not trekking.
Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Landing One-Day Heli Tour Highlights
- Our trip begins with landing at Kalapatthar, which has an altitude of 5,545 m, placing it higher than even Everest Base Camp. We limit our stop at Kalapatthar to a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes because our pilots have witnessed passengers suffering from altitude symptoms even before they realize they are at such a height.
- We climb from Lukla to Kalapatthar over just 30 minutes with a climb of 2,705 m. Such a steep ascent from 2,850 m to Kalapatthar could never be achieved through a trekking route, which is why we make sure we carry oxygen on all flights.
- Our journey takes us to Gokyo Lake, which has an altitude of 4,790 m, and this is one stop that most passengers will tell us afterwards that they loved the most. The place is quiet compared to Kalapatthar and has no expedition movement, with aquamarine clear water fed by glacial silt.
- Cross the Ngozumpa Glacier in less than 10 minutes, something which normally takes trekkers two days of slogging through loose moraine, can only be experienced from the air.
- Breakfast at the Hotel Everest View, 3880 m, a leisurely hour on the itinerary set after the two highest landings, thereby allowing travelers to descend by the time they finish their meal rather than start climbing after that.
- Lukla pit-stop is compulsory, given the fact that without refueling, helicopters would not be able to carry passengers to Kalapatthar without stopping en route to drop weight.
- An early morning flight, so the time of departure is arranged in advance of the clouds that usually form in the afternoon and make any flights in conditions of low visibility impossible.
Gokyo Helicopter Tour with Everest Base Camp Guaranteed Landing Overview
We created this Gokyo and Everest Base Camp landing heli tour based on a recurring observation of clients who couldn’t commit two weeks to a trek but still wanted a taste of high altitude beyond a scenic flyby, which simply never satisfied the desire to stand on a mountaintop. Our Gokyo Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is organized around three specific landings (Kalapatthar, 5,545m; Gokyo Lake, 4,790m; Hotel Everest View, 3,880m) rather than a single flyby over Everest typical of short mountain flights offered in Kathmandu.
Kalapatthar landing is the product of extensive, cautious groundwork since a 2,705m gain over Lukla is a physiological challenge to beat in 30 minutes, so we only added it after establishing standard operating procedures, including oxygen on board for every flight, time limits on the ground (10 to 15 minutes), and keeping the rotors spinning for immediate departure in the case of any discomfort. This goes beyond the industry standard because we know that Kalapatthar is higher than Everest Base Camp. We had no intention of offering such a tour without considering all possible safety measures.
Gokyo Lake was included in the itinerary of this Gokyo EBC helicopter tour for a good reason – not only because of the altitude. A landing by the side of Dudh Pokhari, the turquoise waters of which are veiled with glistening glacial sediment, provides an opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved, if brief, minutes of peace at 4,790m, away from the bustling EBC traffic. After breakfast at Hotel Everest View, the next activity is a planned one, but it doesn’t feel rushed: the hour or so spent watching the sunrise over the valley is a good time to catch your breath on the way back down. A stop in Lukla is mandatory, as helicopters need to refuel before flying back to Kathmandu; a journey that covers almost 360 km takes a full day, but the time spent in the Khumbu region is flexible and ideally suited to a morning-to-afternoon schedule dictated by the weather, not a set time.
This tour costs USD 3,400 per person, which is higher than and we cannot lower the price because landing at Kalapatthar involves additional costs due to the oxygen system on board, recalculating the weight of the aircraft, and a mandatory refuel stop at Lukla to add enough fuel for flights back and forth – most of the shorter mountain flights offer only one landing and do not involve any of these expenses. Additional layovers at Gokyo Lake and Hotel Everest View add up to the price as well, since they require extra fuel and favorable weather conditions for landing and take-off. If you decide to stay at Everest View Hotel, oxygen and ground assistance at all landing points are included in your USD 3,400. There are no hidden costs at the time of booking since the price already covers everything.
Why Choose Mountain Rock Treks for This One Day Everest Gokyo Helicopter Tour?
- Oxygen is brought along on all flights; it's not something that can be offered as an option due to the rapid onset of symptoms at Kalapatthar's 5,545m after 30 minutes of climbing with no acclimatization.
- Weight and seating of passengers are organized individually by our ground team prior to flights departing, as the payload capacity at this altitude is incredibly tight, and we would rather split a group between two aircraft than risk an overweight takeoff.
- Departures are only scheduled in the mornings to avoid the afternoon build-up of clouds rolling in from the Khumbu, which results in a lower cancellation and reroute rate in comparison to companies operating later in the day.
- The trip briefing is conducted by Director Dipak himself, who goes through exactly what to expect at every landing, including the surprisingly short time on the ground at Kalapatthar, which often comes as a shock to first-time visitors.
- 24/7 support is provided via WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, and phone, which our Kathmandu office directly monitors on the morning of your flight
- Airport pick-up and drop-off is complimentary and is not outsourced to a separate transportation service.
- Our success rate stands at 97 percent for all 2025 and spring 2026 mountain departures, which is a figure we are able to report due to our internal tracking of every flight rather than a claimed statistic.
- We have direct relationships with the pilots and operators and have been running Khumbu heli services for years, which means we can make decisions on the ground to change a flight based on weather rather than a strictly enforced morning departure time regardless of conditions.
What You See From Kathmandu to Gokyo and Everest Base Camp In Just a Few Hours?
The Moment the Door Opens at Kalapatthar
The cold cuts instantly and sharply across your exposed skin, but is gone from your awareness in seconds, having been overtaken by the sheer astonishment of the view. Everest's summit pyramid is closer here, too, its edges and ridges picking out detail in a clarity that the Base Camp trail never achieves, the mountain appearing to balance up and around this vantage point as if the ridge and the city weren't a walk away.
Details the Brochure Photos Never Show
- Old prayer wreaths and stone piles made by actual climbing teams after the successful ascent.
- The Khumbu Icefall looks dark blue at this point, not the white flat ice that one can see at the ground level.
- On a sunny morning, it is possible to see the trekkers who are located near Gorak Shep – they covered the distance of eight days of the walk in 30 minutes.
- We can observe the hanging glacier of Ama Dablam – the mountain that carries the name of the glacier.
At Gokyo, a Quiet We Think Beats Kalapatthar
Dudh Pokhari Lake's colors can change so fast, being a greenish valley in sunlight, beige as dark clouds pass by, easy to watch the terminal. This is the place with no traffic in the air or on the ground – wind blowing over the water surface.
Lake Gokyo and Kala Patthar EBC Landing Package With Daily Departures in Spring and Autumn 2027/2028
We operate daily departures during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), the two periods in which morning visibility in Khumbu is reliable enough to allow a landing at 5,545m altitude on Kalapatthar. In Kathmandu, some may offer Everest scenic flights on a weekly basis: a single slot, no negotiation. This leaves clients who can only spare one morning in the region at the mercy of the 48-hour weather window. We'll work around your preferred date of travel.
Such flexibility has allowed us to accommodate a solo client with a single morning window before an 11 am international departure; a businessman looking to extend a Kathmandu trip by one day; families with a wedding in the region to consider. We pulled the trigger a day early when the forecast suggested a closing window around Thursday's solar noon, insufficient time for our standard itinerary. We do not operate this flight outside of spring and autumn; the cloud ceiling during winter and the monsoon cover during summer render both landings on the Lake and the Plateau too risky to consider.
The significance of this adaptability has been demonstrated most clearly in particular examples, such as a client with only one free morning in front of an international flight scheduled to depart at 11 am, a businessman participating in a conference that lasts one extra day in Kathmandu, and a family that has to adjust to a wedding date arranged elsewhere in Nepal. We managed to advance the planned departure of the trip by one day when the forecast suggested that the weather windows would narrow and shut down before Thursday, which could not be done with a strict Tuesday-only plan. Apart from spring and fall seasons, we do not offer this trip at all due to the risk of being cancelled caused by the clouds during the winter season and rains during the monsoon period.
Why Choose This Tour Instead of Only an EBC Heli Tour?
Additional Landing for Around USD 400
A conventional booking of a flight tour will cost around USD 3,000, while this package includes an additional landing at Gokyo Lake for a total of USD 3,400. We believe that this price is one of the best values along this entire route. Our pilots have done the trip numerous times, and they know that adding Gokyo does not require more than 20 more minutes of flight time and allows viewing another landscape.
What You Miss Out on if You Skip Gokyo
The ride between landings is above the Ngozumpa Glacier, which is not visible from Kalapatthar since it lies behind the hill. We have had guests who booked a single-landing tour long ago return to add Gokyo and tell us that they felt incomplete without the realization of where the icefall comes from.
Our candid opinion, which not all our clients endorse
Gokyo is better than Kalapatthar because of its environment, tranquility, lack of radio communication, and more time on the ground. At 4,790 m in the Gokyo region, altitude problems are not a major issue, while climbing at 5,545 m in Kalapatthar concerns clients.
A Weather Fallback We Rely On, Not Just Mention
Clouds and government restrictions have made Kalapatthar inaccessible in the past, while Gokyo remained accessible. We had to land in both places so our pilots could have more chances to make their landing in at least one place.
Cost of Gokyo and Kalapatthar EBC Landing Tour
This tour runs USD 3,400 per person, covering both landings, Kalapatthar at 5,545m and Gokyo Lake at 4,790m, along with the mandatory Lukla refuel, oxygen on board, and ground support at every stop. The Everest View Hotel landing itself is included in that price; the breakfast served there is not, and we made that split deliberately rather than fold in a meal cost that varies by season and inflates the headline price for something clients can simply pay for on arrival, roughly USD 15 to 20 at the hotel terrace.
Three Landings in Just One Trip Within 6-7 Hours
Kalapatthar Landing (5,545m)
Krishna, our pilot, has flown this route since 2019. He limits time on the ground to just ten minutes instead of the fifteen minutes as mentioned before, which is explained by the fact that he has had two clients walk back to the plane during the time of the photo shoot due to their O2 levels dropping 80 percent within minutes of arrival on the ground.
Internally, we disagree about whether it makes sense to take this risk in light of the forecast; while our booking team wants to make the sale, our pilots want to have a chance to cancel the flight, and the pilots always win this argument. What you will see if you agree to accept the shortened time window is the Everest being clearly visible so close to the mountain that the Khumbu Icefall appears blackish blue, a texture that no photograph taken on Base Camp actually achieves.
Gokyo Lake Landing (4,790m)
We regard this location as superior to Kalapatthar even though we understand this may not be the widely held view for travelers interested in capturing shots of Everest. The time allocation at Dudh Pokhari would be approximately 20 minutes, which is twice as long as the one experienced at Kalapatthar because, at this elevation of 4,790m the degree of danger is reduced significantly.
Here your pilot shuts down his engine completely, which he normally does not do at Kalapatthar, and hence Dudh Pokhari becomes the only point of the itinerary with perfect silence. Watching how the color of the lake changes before our eyes from jade to grayish green usually happens too quickly, leaving many of our clients unable to catch this moment while they are distracted preparing the camera after taking photos at Kalapatthar.
Everest View Hotel Landing (3,880m)
This stop is part of the USD 3,400 price; breakfast is not (around USD 15-20 paid directly on the terrace. This stop features in our itinerary for a purpose beyond the view, because our pilot has remarked several times that missing it and going straight to Kathmandu from Gokyo would speed up the final leg by 20 minutes but rob all clients of the last leg's end goal.
