Phakding is a tiny remote village in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Being on the Everest Base Camp Trekking trail route, the town has gained more popularity and fame. How to get there?
Situated at an elevation of 2600m, Phakding is an ethnic Sherpa village with stone houses and teahouses. As there are no direct roadways to reach there, we have to first take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airport and then finally join the trek route from Lukla to Phakding. Passing through the Rhododendron forest, farming villages, and suspension bridges, the walk from Lukla to Phakding is truly rejuvenating. While crossing the suspension bridge, be careful and don't cross while Yaks or donkeys are crossing. It takes around four to five hours to reach Phakding from Lukla. Most trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp or Gokyo Lakes spend their first night here at Phakding. And next day the trekkers continue their trekking from Phakding to Namche Bazar.
Trekkers who prefer to skip the Lukla Flight can also join the classic Everest region trekking route from Jiri or Phelps. The trekkers have to take a drive from Kathmandu to Jiri or Phelps. Trekkers can join the traditional way to reach Lukla and then to Phakding. It takes around three days to get Lukla from Phalpu, whereas it takes five days from Jiri.
