Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn offers an incredible trip that even perfection cannot surpass. These are months that considerably distance themselves from heavy rains coming through the monsoon and right before cold winter knocks in December's doorway. Hence, if you consider visiting this remote and mysterious spot, autumn would be the perfect time to make it. The walking trip in Manalsu is a dream for passionate travelers seeking the ideal balance between brevity and astounding grandeur.

Even though Nepal is famous as a country with superb trekking and tours in different places, autumn (September, October, November) stands out as its best season compared with all others. This adventure is good enough because of this period's mild temperature, steady weather conditions, and holiday mood. However, wait a minute. This does not only include the serene celebrations held around Manaslu and Nepal. The weather is your friend in these months because no clouds will obstruct those beautiful skylines.

Autumn's visit to Manaslu Circuit is fantastic due to the mild climate. It is well known that in such high altitudes, the weather is volatile; still, you will not suffer from any harsh conditions. The trails will not have any challenges of hail, heavy rainfall, or wind on your way.

Few trekkers usually walk on the path of the Manaslu zone compared to Everest Base Camp Trek. It is challenging physically and far away, but with its unique cultural culture and beauty, the journey is all worth the physical effort.

Even though it is autumn, the strong wind and thin air in the Manaslu upper region can make one feel cold after moving to a higher altitude. Thus, carrying a snug jacket or sweater as part of the gear would be a great idea before embarking on this challenging and long trek.

The Tibetan cultural trek in Manaslu takes you to the Manaslu conservation area. Due to the monsoon rain, the fauna and plants within this preserve flourish. As you walk, you discover a purity with relatively few modern influences. Similarly, the natives have been taught to live with nature and everything that makes up nature. You observe the regions behind the Annapurna range on the Manaslu trek.

Autumn trekking in Nepal period passes from one side of the Budhi Gandaki River bank to high-altitude Himalayan giants until it ends by Larkya La Pass (5,106m). Manaslu Circuit Trek opened in 1992 with a total area of 642 sq. mi and is located within the Gorkha District in western Nepal adjacent to the Conservation Area of Manaslu.

Before starting Manaslu trekking, one must ensure mental and physical preparation as it is a moderate-level trail. Adapt to extensive trekking either by going to the gym or even a few trails if you prefer.

The leading travel in Nepal is either spring or autumn (from September through November). Therefore, you should not be surprised to see crowds on those trails. Visitors are arriving from all corners of the world to attempt this long-haul adventure, surpassing their limits. Therefore, make sure you are fit and healthy. The Manaslu circuit trek should also be booked in advance because the accommodations for that area are fully booked for September, October, and November.

Whether you choose the 9-day hike or extend it to more than two weeks, these trials will reward you with fantastic vistas of neighboring mountains and incredible animals in the lower hills. Among the animals in autumn here are almost extinct species of Red Panda and Snow leopards.

However, after a couple of weeks, the temperature becomes warmer, and so does the heat. Once September is in the middle, The sun will appear more often. The white mountains are very clear, all thanks to the clear skies. And it becomes so enjoyable to follow the paths in Nepal.

Although October is a very busy month, it can be best exploited to explore the unique and pure Manaslu region. There will be many thrill-seekers in this area. It will be best if you reserve your accommodation, dining, and travel before this best autumn month arrives. Festivities like Dashain and Tihar, two of Nepal's major Hindu festivals, also occur this month. The weather in Manaslu is the best during October.

The evening and early morning are other factors with a cold wind blowing, which can be enjoyable for an adventurous experience. The Manaslu region's average daytime temperature ranges from 9 C to -4 C above an altitude of more than 4000 meters. Still, it can go down as low as -10 degrees Celsius at night or in the mornings. But October is the driest month, with hardly any probability of rain and snow; divine views without clouds make each day's excursion on Manaslu magnificent.

This month of Autumn is an alpine lover's paradise. On a clear, sunny day, you can appreciate mountain scenery. Rain or bad weather in October is also a very low possibility. It is the same as trekking in a period when weather inconveniences become things that are far from happening. The Manaslu Region is always a place to behold; it infinitely changes its appearance in October. You will find numerous other trekkers on Manaslu Region trails.

Manaslu Circuit in November

Precipitation: 0 mm

Maximum temperature: 4°C

Minimum temperature: -9°C

Why Partly Cloudy Days:  2.2 days

November marks a period of sadness for adventure enthusiasts in Nepal. It does not mean it suffers from intolerable climatic conditions. Still, it marks the end of a beloved Autumn to every interested hiker who dreams of traveling here at the perfect time. The month of September is as feasible a time for trekking in the Manaslu region as other months are. November promises blue sky, a pleasant climate, and exciting views.

November is also the auspicious, dry season to adventure in Himalayan expeditions, leading to a spectacular trip within this part of Nepal. Apart from the beautiful, clear blue skies contributing to the magnificence of the Himalayan views, only calm, fresh morning and evening breezes inspire trekkers daily.

12°C is the very average temperature in the Manasalu region during November, and at higher elevations, it falls close to -9 °C or less. October is a month that is precisely in the middle, away from occasional monsoon rainfall blowouts until mid-September and winter blizzards. Conversely, November may experience a rare snowfall at higher elevations towards its end as it edges closer to the cold season. Thus, the Manaslu Trekkers should be careful in packing for this adventurous trip towards the last week of November because the cold temperature is getting higher.

Moreover, the November Manaslu Trek is a more leisurely trip to enjoy some of the best sceneries in the Himalayas. At best, you would be lucky enough to see the endangered species of the Himalayas, such as Manasulu Conservation Area, preparing for hibernation or migratory birds flying off towards their little warm haven.

The month is the last specification for trekkers who desire to find the Manaslu Region at its best. However, if they do not catch up this month, it will take about two to three months until the winter season ends. November is slightly colder but brings the same holiday as other Autumn months.

Why Trek to Manaslu Circuit in Autumn (September, October, November)?

The Autumn season is characterized by a relatively peaceful and calm climate, which makes it a suitable time to climb Larke Peak. This is one of the most active times of the year; thus, costs for different legal permits also increase. Still, the Manaslu trek in autumn has more advantages than cons.

Easy to cross Larkya la pass

Autumn trekking in September, October, and November is a reasonable period for crossing over Larkya La Pass at 5200 meters. Traversing the path entails a hike from Bimthang that is usually done in the morning.

Autumn has the perfect climate and well-maintained paths that make walking through Larkya La Pass more accessible as there is very less snow. Similarly, the bright skies with clear vision, and the daytime temperature enhances trekking comfort. This season reduces the possibility of Precipitation that would hinder climbing.

The trek period matches the most favorable time for crossing this Himalayan pass. This fall offers less snow cover, thus simplifying the climb and requiring no special equipment like crampons. This provides a safer and more convenient journey for explorers hiking the legendary Larkya La Pass.

Beautiful Scenery Along the Track

The charm of autumn will start to emerge in the middle of September. Once the monsoon season ends, the clouds vanish, and a clear sky will allow you to see the magnificent Himalayan mountain range in all its glory in Manalsu.

And while on the hike, you will come across seasonal fruits and vegetables. The paddies in the field turn golden while orange trees grow everywhere on hills. By mid-November, the crops have ripened and are ready for harvest.

The sky is less cloudy and, as we have often said, the views are amazing. The trail is beautifully adorned with the presence of Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Kang Guru-7542m., Annapurna I (8091) m, and Himlung Himal. Similarly, green hills, valleys, and mountain villages are also wonderfully appealing.

Favorable Weather and Low Rainfall

Autumn, from September to November, is the best time for hiking around Manaslu. The monsoon season is over, and the temperature will naturally return to normal.

The air is drier, so the environment dries out. When you go higher, the temperature falls along with it. In September, rain may start, but it stops by the end of that month. In autumn, October is the best among the three, with very little Precipitation around 5 mm. By the beginning of November, you will smell winter.

Autumn is much drier than the monsoon season in the Manaslu area. This means the trails are usually drier, minimizing the chances of muddy or slippery paths. In addition, the reduction in cloud cover is also a positive factor because it improves visibility and lets you enjoy all these magnificent views.

Weather and climate are in heaven during autumn, making the trip magical. The days are warm and sunny with magnificent views. Despite the many ups and downs made through rough, steep, and rocky trails, this trip is relatively easy in autumn compared to other seasons.

Safer Time to Travel

Autumn is a much safer period than any other year in Manaslu. This trail is also perfect for beginners, who can enjoy their time on easy trails and friendly weather. Landslides and avalanches are not standard on this track, so the Manaslu Circuit is also considered safer than other trekking routes in fall time. There is no rain, so the paths are not muddy. If the rain does not fall, trails will have fewer leeches and insects.

In addition, during the fall, there is more oxygen at higher elevations. The air is renewed and purified during the rainy season, and more oxygen can be seen in the mountainous atmosphere. This fresh environment also helps in preventing altitude sickness.

More Festivals Are Celebrated in Autumn

The popularity of the Manaslu Expedition in autumn as opposed to spring is also due to the vibrant cultural mosaic of festivals celebrated during this period. Although spring does occur at the same time as several festivals, autumn brings a wider range of cultural celebrations. Autumn festivals include Indra Jatra, Dashain, Gai Jatra, Buddha Jayanti, Janai Purnima, Mahashivaratri, Tihar, Bisket Jatra, Magh Sankranti, Mani Rimdu Bhoto Jatra, Holi, Lhosar, Kumari Jatra, Losar and Tiji Festival.

The abundance of such festivals in the fall contributes to a diverse cultural atmosphere that appeals to residents and tourists. One of the reasons why autumn was chosen as the season for the Manaslu Expedition was the favorable weather conditions at this time. Trekking enthusiasts appreciate the magnificence of natural beauty and enjoy participating in numerous festivals, making autumn a favorite season for this trip.

Autumn Manaslu Circuit Trek Vegetation, Forests, and Wildlife

In autumn, Nepal's Manaslu region vegetation transforms from green to warm tones. The deciduous forests are dressed in red and gold, offering travelers the opportunity to appreciate nature's wonders and wildlife species find refuge in adapting to new surroundings. In the fall, the animals in the Manaslu region become active again, enjoying their time from hot and humid summers to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of that season.

Three vegetation types are present in the Manaslu region at various altitudes. The low hills, mid mountains, and high hills will offer us different vegetation that has traits and characteristics of highlands. However, they have some features that provide the best representation of change for travelers. The area has 19 main important forest species, the rhododendron and Himalayan blue pine, among others. We can also explore several small plants, including medicinal herbs and mountain flowers, in the high-altitude areas. Some aromatic plants are included among other significant attractions that enliven the Manaslu area in autumn charms.

The Manaslu conservation, where our hike takes place, boasts about some of the world's rarest and most beautiful animals. These wildlife species include some that are almost endangered, including red pandas and snow leopards.

Other attractive animals are the grey wolf, Asian black bear, blue sheep, and Himalayan musk deer tahr. The mainland serow, woolly Hare, horseshoe bat, and Himalayan goral Black-lipped pika Himalayan mouse hare are also present. Similarly, at least 10 bird species,33 mammals, three reptiles, and eleven butterflies are present. This incredible wildlife in Manaslu has been seriously preserved in recent years since the proclamation of a Conservation area.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn: Accommodations

If you want comfortable and easy accommodations along the Manaslu trek, the autumn season is the time to visit. Almost all tea houses are open throughout, and their owners are back in business.

The Manaslu trek route has less luxurious accommodation facilities where no luxury mode of treks is available compared to other popularly chosen routes. In most teahouses, you only get a shared bedroom with 2-3 beds per room and basic needs like comfortable mattresses. As far as the bathroom is concerned, you also have to use a public toilet; on the ground level, there are showers, while up in the mountains, one has to be satisfied with warm water from buckets.

September is the first month of the Autumn period. During this time, you will find many hikers scattered around the trail. Nevertheless, as September is considered the best time for Manaslu Circuit trekking, it may not be easy to find accommodations as they are primarily packed in this peak month.

Booking ahead of time is recommended to avoid disappointments. The tea houses will be your lodging during the trek. While these basic local tea houses may have limited resources, you will still have a bed with blankets and pillows. Do not forget that Manaslu Circuit tea houses are basic but cozy.

With the Manaslu Circuit Trek being good in October, different categories of trekkers are more likely to book teahouses and lodges beforehand when traveling during this month. Therefore, booking is essential for October, too.

In the last month of the autumn period, moderate numbers of trekkers get into the Manaslu zone, and hence, it is easy to find teahouse accommodation without getting overcrowded. This might appeal to campers. By the end of November, your hiking trip will be quieter and more private because fewer people will be on trails. Thus, if you like less populated places and can easily access accommodation facilities and pleasant weather conditions, this month might be a fantastic time to go hiking.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Autumn Meals

The whole meal experience is better while trekking in autumn on the Manaslu circuit trek than in winter or, for that matter, any other season. The remote nature of this region causes logistical problems, which means supplying food to higher altitudes of the Manalsu territory. However, favorable autumn weather and well-kept paths make transporting various types of food easy. During this period, trekkers can enjoy multiple dishes in these lovely surroundings with the clear provision of supplies.

The Manaslu trek menu includes a dish that rarely fails: the typical Nepalese Dal Bhat. This blend of steamed rice, lentil broth curry, and pickle is delicious. People from Nepal are addicted to this combination, and they eat the same food twice a day every single day for their entire life.

As winter approaches during the pleasant Manaslu Circuit Trek in November or early December, delight your stomach with a mushroom garlic soup. There are long meal queues when trekker numbers increase late in September and October, as well as after early November. To save time, it is logical to order meals and beverages in advance. Different breakfasts are found in Tea Houses, ranging from eggs, chapati, and oats to Tibetan bread porridge and pancakes and cornflake hot drinks. Momo chowmein pasta, dal-bhat sandwiches, sherpa stew potato, and snacks during lunch. The meals range from thukpa and dal bhat to pizzas for salad lovers. Tea houses and hotels have different menus, providing culinary delights throughout your trek.

Why is the Manaslu Expedition in Autumn Rather Than Spring?

Spring and autumn are favorable times for the Manaslu Expedition; however, autumn is better. It has a more impressive trekking and Climbing experience because of its reliable climate, colorful celebrations, and stunning scenery. Below are more reasons why Manalsu climbing in Autumn is better than in spring.

Minimal avalanche Risk

With the beginning of spring, a greater danger for landslides and rain or thunderstorms appears. However, in autumn, the risk of avalanches becomes much lower because the winter months have yet to come. This creates a safer hiking and mounting environment in general, lowering the difficulty created by avalanches.

Availability of Facilities Even in the Upper Manalsu Region

The teahouses, lodges, and other facilities on the track start opening up gradually as springtime approaches. Though lower-altitude tea houses are usually available, some higher ones – especially the remote ones – may not be because of the post-winter effect. However, during Autumn, all facilities along the route are fully functioning and accessible. As the winter season is yet to come, there is very little snow in the upper area. Therefore, more accommodation facilities are found in autumn compared to spring in the upper Manaslu region.

Low Mountaineering Royalty for Foreigners in Autumn

Mt Manaslu Expedition mountaineering royalty for foreigners in the autumn season in Nepal is less compared to the spring season of Nepal. Climbers have to pay around $1800 as a royalty fee in spring, whereas in autumn, the cost is just half, numbering at about $900.

The choice to do the Manaslu Expedition in the fall rather than spring arises from a smart combination of cost factors and weather advantages. This offers the adventurers easier and more appealing autumn climbing. Furthermore, the weather is perfect in such a season; clear skies and lower precipitation ensure ePrecipitationbing conditions.

Fewer Cases of extreme Snow Crevasse

One reason to trek to Mt Manaslu during autumn is that there are very few dangers on the top of this mountain. Since autumn does not imply a cold winter, you will experience mild snow and less ice while going up.

Permits for Manaslu Trek in Autumn

The Manaslu cannot be accessed freely without a permit, as the independent trekker cannot visit this place. Furthermore, the limitation has been increased further by introducing a rule on two or more trekkers per group with accompanying local guides. However, the contract guide cannot issue permits. A local trekking operator is the only one that can issue this permit. To get access to visit the Manaslu region, visitors should give the following licenses:

Restricted Area Permit:

The Manaslu Circuit Track leads to Nepal's restricted zone. Therefore, the first permit you should apply for is a Special permit known as RAP.

Trekkers require this permit from Jagat village until they pass through Samagaon, the final checkpoint. RAP costs vary based on the number of days you have to spend during a Himalayan adventure in the Restricted area, such as Jagat and Samagaon. In autumn, the cost of restricted permits is as follows:

  • September to November: It is charged USD 100 for a weekly permit, and after the first week, an additional fee of 5 dollars per day will be applied.
  • December to August: The permit is charged at $75 USD for one week, and thereafter, 10 dollars per day will be added.

Annapurna Conservation Area Project

When traveling from Dharapani towards Besisahar, ACAP must be secured. Besisahar marks the end of the Manaslu Circuit Trek and is a starting point for the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Just like the MCAPs, it costs $30 per person.

Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

Manaslu Trek and or Manaslu Circuit trek is inside the "Manaslu Conservation Area," a safe zone for several species requiring an MCAP permit. However, the Manaslu Conservation Area permit does not vary, unlike that of the Manaslu Restricted Area permit. The cost of MCAP is as follows:

  • For SAARC Nationals: At least U$ 10 per head or NPR.
  • For Non-SAARC Nationals: $30 or Three thousand Nepali Rupees per person.

Manaslu Trek in Autumn: Transportation

The starting point of Manaslu Trekking is Maccha Khola via Soti Khola. Below is how you can reach the starting point via various transportation methods.

Local Buses Transportation in Autumn

The other is the more widespread route to Machha Khola (900m/2 954 ft) using a public bus. At around 7 a.m., the bus leaves Kathmandu from Gongabu Bus Park. The distance is about 158 Kilometres by bus.

Private Jeep: A better and more comfortable alternative way to reach the Manaslu trek starting point is a private jeep drive from Kathmandu, which will finally drop you at Machha Khola. Nepal's two types of private jeeps are tourist number plates (green color) and red plates. Naturally, red plate jeeps sometimes have to stop at some points, so it is logical if you get one with a tourist number.

Sharing Jeep Transportation in Autumn

The Jeep service up to Jagat was recently introduced. This means you can now go above Machha Khola until Jagat. With the unavailability of these big public buses, a jeep is still an option—several jeeps for sharing go from Machha Khola or SotiKhola to Jagat.
