Flight from Ramechhap to Lukla opens the long-awaited door for travellers to get to Lukla from Kathmandu. Nowadays, the Ramechhap Airport is the main gateway for the Everest Base Camp trekkers who want to fly to Lukla after arrival. The flight from Ramechhap Airport reaches Lukla within just 20 minutes on a twin otter plane. This is the shortest and easiest way to get from the Manthali airport to the Everest entrance in Lukla

Everest Base Camp climb is a place visited by millions of hikers and climbers around the world. To start this long, arduous journey to the high Khumbu region, trekkers are first taken to the high-altitude Lukla airport. A flight From Ramechhap to Lukla would demonstrate that it is far superior from the ITA airport to Manthali airport if you are keen to spare yourself delays caused by air traffic congestion. Such delays can be for about one or more hours, and the weather of Lukla might not permit the flight.

Lukla is the starting point of a trek to the top of Everest. The mountain literally stands at the 'Top of the World' at the height of 8,848 m. Hence, the Everest base camp trekking, Everest short trekking, Everest 3 pass trek, Gokyo lakes trek, and Everest to Gokyo lakes trekking were introduced in the Khumbu area, which is the most popular trekking destination.

The Nepalese aviation authorities announced this new flight route between Ramechhap and Lukla as a means to mitigate congestion and delays at the crowded Tribhuvan International Airport during peak seasons when air travel to Lukla for Everest region treks becomes a necessity.

The airport is ineffective as there is a very high volume of domestic flights to Lukla from March to May and then again from September to October when the number of trekkers is around thousands. The long-term solution to this issue is to make a few such flights available from Manthali Airport to Lukla instead of Kathmandu.

By operating some of these mountain flights from the bigger airport in Kathmandu to Manthali, the traffic jams can be reduced. For trekkers, though, there are more benefits to booking the Ramechhap–Lukla flight than just travelling and clearing the skies. For example, it saves them from a tiresome vehicle journey from Kathmandu to Rmcheap that consumes at least five hours since the traffic is unpredictable at times, and sometimes there’s congestion en route.

From Ramechhap, the flight usually lasts 15-20 minutes, whereas the flight takes 35-40 minutes from Kathmandu to reach the mountain airstrip in Lulka. Similarly, the road trip from Kathmandu to Ramechhap will be about 4 hours. Therefore, trekkers often spend nights in Ramechhap and board a flight to Lukla the next day. This gives you the chance to reach the starting point of the trek early and start your hike more than the other travellers who opted to endure the Lukla flight deals and cancellations option for the trek.

Ramechhap lacks proper accommodation and service structures compared to Kathmandu. Hence, overnight flights in the area are just for flights between the airport and other places. Trekkers will probably have to use a Nepalese travel company or trekking agency that has experience in this kind of route and logistics for flying from Ramechhap to Lukla airport. Big international companies may not be able to offer bookings for the Ramechap to Lukla flight.

We At Mountain Rock Treks are now offering bookings for Ramcheap to Lukla flights to start your different treks like Everest Base Camp, Everest Expedition, Gokyo Lake Trek, Everest Three Passes trek, etc. If reaching Lukla by flight from Ramechap is not your choice, then we can arrange vehicles that will take you from Kathmandu to Ramechhap by road. In addition, we can also help with the reservations for accommodation if required. Go through the Ramechap to Lukla flight cost and Itinerary details and contact us for Bookings and furthermore inquiry.

Note: Flights between Ramechhap and Lukla are still closely regulated and run on a fixed schedule determined by Nepal’s aviation regulating authority to control traffic. Weather conditions could sometimes lead to delays or cancellation of flights, with a limited number of daily flight rotations.

How Will the Ramechap to Lukla Flight Experience Be?

The road to Ramechhap may not be very comfortable, and the airport, at the least, has no proper amenities and services, but it remains a better option for flying to Lukla. Even though going to Ramechhap is an additional inconvenience, it is nevertheless worth it to try one's luck at getting to Lukla and start the experience of trekking. One main advantage is the time of the flight – 12 minutes from Ramechhap to Lukla, whereas it takes 35 minutes from Kathmandu. This means that in the event of good weather, several flights can be made within a short duration to transport many travellers for trekking purposes. For instance, it was clear in Kathmandu weather, but flights that are planned to fly to Lukla may be delayed for a long time on the tarmac because of traffic holding. When they are authorised  to fly, the weather conditions may be unfavourable and result in the cancellation or rescheduling of the flights. The only thing, that there are no amenities in Ramechhap may be considered a disadvantage whereas the increased flight at this airport negates this disadvantage. The goal is to give trekkers the best chance of getting to Lukla in time and begin what is always a highly anticipated adventure through the grand mountain range.

Why Choose Ramechhap For Lukla Flight as an Alternative?

For trekkers, getting to Lukla before the best of the year's weather is over is important. The only tricky thing about getting to Ramechhap is that it can take a bit of work, but in this case, the benefits are far more significant than the disadvantages. Well-planned flight schedules and a much higher probability of getting good flying weather in Ramechhap guarantee that you will not waste your time getting to the starting point of your treks. However, it should be recognized that the Lukla flights are mostly unreliable and may be cancelled without warning. Thus, while turning to helicopters is admissible, it is rather costly and may be hardly affordable by most trekkers.

  1. Cost-Effective: A helicopter is a good alternative to Lukla flight calculations and delays. However, the Kathmandu to Lukla helicopter option may not be affordable for all trekkers wanting to reach Lukla. Compared to the Lukla helicopter flight, the Racehapo flight is more cost-effective for trekkers.
  2. Higher Flight Dependability: Ramechhap Airport, though not as comfortable as some bigger airports, has one great advantage: The flights are more on time.
  3. Swifter Flights: The flight duration between Ramnchap and Lukla is only, while it takes 35 minutes from Kathmandu to reach Lukla. In case of good weather, they can offer more flight schedules within a short period, thus transporting more trekkers most efficiently.

Unlike in Kathmandu, air traffic does not seem tied up in Ramechhap either. This guarantees you are not among those who fail to fly due to short time on the tarmac, more flights, and better weather.

Best Time for Ramechhap to Lukla Flight

If we consider the favourable weather conditions, the best time to travel to Luka is during the post-monsoon season, from September to November and the spring season, from March to May. The weather is usually good, the winds are light, and there is little or no precipitation compared to other periods of the year. It is very well known that Lukla has mountains all around; therefore, visibility plays an important role to get around.

The peak months of the area are the months of autumn and spring. They include February, March, April, September, October and November. There are no clouds; one can see mountains, trees, hills on which bushes grow, wild animals, birds, and clouds in the sky. During such seasons, so many tourists come to this area, making it very congested. Crowdedness makes this place much more irritating, but all that is forgotten at the sight of the natural landscape.

However, the actual value of the Ramechhap flight is during such a situation that flights from Kathmandu Lukla are shut due to traffic jams or bad weather. For example, during spring and autumn, when many trekkers seek to travel to the mountains, flights in Kathmandu might be delayed or cancelled. In this case, taking the Ramechhap flight poses many benefits. Thus, the ‘best’ time to take Ramechhap to Lukla is when no Lukla flight from Kathmandu is active, mainly due to overbooking or lousy weather conditions. If the dates of your trekking itinerary are somewhat flexible, and you cannot arrange a flight from Kathmandu-Lukla in the high season, Ramechhap is a good backup to start your trek.

Advantages of Ramechhap to Lukla Flight

If you are planning an EBC trek or any other trek in the Khumbu region, flying directly from Ramechhap Airport to Lukla is much better and possible than from Kathmandu. Here's why Ramechhap offers a more efficient and potentially more enjoyable travel experience:

  1. Reduced Delays and Cancellations: Tribhuvan International Airport is located in Kathmandu and deals with so many domestic and international flights daily. Therefore, it experiences congestion and many flight delays. However, Ramechhap, primarily used for Lukla flights, does not face this problem. This means that the flight you will book to reach Lukla will operate smoothly without any hassle.
  2. Faster Flight Time: Ramechhap is comparatively closer to Lukla, thus less flying time of approximately 20 minutes, and from Kathmandu thirty-five minutes. It allows more takeoff opportunities if the weather is favourable, therefore tilting your chances for a safe takeoff on a better possibility.
  3. Cost-Effective Option: Transportation from Ramechhap might be slightly cheaper than Kathmandu. A one-way ticket will likely cost $30 cheaper for people who go for cheap options.
  4. Efficient Backlog Management: Unfavourable weather conditions are also other causes of flight cancellations, thus greatly impacting the travelling schedules. Since Ramechhap prioritises the Lukla flight, it's easier for trekkers to reschedule and get back on track compared to Kathmandu's busier airport.
  5. Suitable for Tight Schedules: The reliability of the Ramechhap flight schedule is perfect for those travellers who already have fixed programs for their trekking or are on a very tight schedule. You will not be vulnerable to missing important conferences due to any delay originating from Kathmandu.
  6. More chances of Flying: Manthali Airport of Ramechhap can reopen quickly at any time when the weather clears up since the airport only operates Lukla flights. It increases the chances of you flying to Lukla.

What Are The Chances of Ramechap to Lukla Flight Cancellations?

The chances of complete flight cancellations at Ramechhap Airport are relatively low. As this airport primarily services flights to and from Lukla, there is less air traffic congestion that could lead to delays. Weather is the main factor that can disrupt operations at this small airport nestled in the mountains. Fog, low clouds, and strong winds can make it unsafe for planes to land or take off. However, Ramechhap has an advantage - its short 14- 20 minute flight time to Lukla means planes can quickly take advantage of brief windows of better weather.

If weather causes your Lukla flight to be cancelled from Ramechhap, it is common to be delayed a matter of hours while waiting for conditions to improve enough to fly. Your trekking guide or agency will reschedule your flight for the same day if possible. In cases where cancellations stretch overnight, they will arrange accommodations in Ramechhap and meals until you can depart the next day. Delays are an inherent possibility when flying in and out of Lukla, but cancellations lasting more than a day or two are rare at this airport compared to the delays common at the larger Kathmandu airport.

Is it safe to fly from Ramechhap to Lukla?

The Ramechhap Lukla flight is relatively safer as compared to the Kathmandu Lukla flight. However, some risks are associated with the location of the area, and one of the most significant is Lukla Airport / Tenzing-Hillary Airport, which features a short, low, and steep airstrip amid the hills. However, the flights between Ramechhap and Lukla are not very long; therefore, the probability of the risks associated with the activity is low. The pilots handling the Ramhechap to Lukla will be well-trained and equipped to handle this precarious approach to landing there. Weight Limit Considerations on Ramechhap to Lukla Flight

While on the flights to & from Lukla, either through Kathmandu or Ramechhap, the Airlines permit 15 kgs per person. The Tenzing Hillary Airport in the Himalayas has implemented many rules for safety reasons. One of these rules involves the baggage allowance in terms of weight allowed on the flight. Any passenger who boards a flight here can take only luggage with a maximum weight of 15 kilograms. This is divided between the check-in baggage, which allows a maximum of 10kgs, and the hand-carry baggage, which should not exceed 5kgs.

But what if you have several extra kilos to take with you? However, there is no need to panic since the airlines can work this out. If your luggage weighs more than 15 kg, you will be charged $1 per extra kilogram. It is, however, manageable if one cannot afford to leave that extra stuff behind. However, it is advisable to pack accordingly to avoid some of the following hardships that may compel you to spend more as you trek to the Everest region.
